Endotoxins explained!

Endotoxins, primarily lipopolysaccharides (LPS), are toxic compounds coming from Gram-negative bacteria. These toxins are released into the environment and the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), following normal bacterial multiplication and death. Multiple stress factors or immunosuppression can reduce animals’ capacity to defend themselves against endotoxins, leading to a lower health, growth and productivity.

Mycotoxins – a force to be reckoned with!

Mycotoxins (such as aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, fumonisins, zearalenone and trichothecenes) are toxic compounds produced by various fungi. The presence of mycotoxin contamination in feed affects animal health, causing reproductive & gastrointestinal disorders, liver & kidney problems, and weakened immunity. High-quality, safe feed is crucial to prevent these invisible, tasteless and heat-stable mycotoxins from impairing animal performance and yields.

Endotoxins: Inducers of inflammation

Endotoxins, also known as bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS), play a crucial role in initiating and worsening severe inflammation in livestock. While this immune response is necessary, it consumes energy and nutrients that would otherwise support growth and production. This inflammation is costly, affecting intestinal function and integrity, thereby impairing nutrient transport & utilization. Consequently, health and productivity are compromised.

Impact of heat stress on poultry

Poultry exposed to heat stress suffer from adverse effects, including high mortality rates, reduced growth and production, and lower meat & egg quality. The negative effect of heat stress has been reported on the physiology, health, production, welfare and behaviors of poultry. In heat-stressed chickens, oxidative stress and suppressed immunity are some of the physiological changes accompanying heat stress.
